    Hi Jetpack
I’m looking for alternatives to Google Analytics (free and paid) that is 100% EU compliant. Will Jeptack for WordPress be the a solution not violating the GDPR (transferring data to be processed outside the EU)?

    February 11th 2022:
“…The French Data Protection Agency, CNIL (Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés), has concluded that the use of Google Analytics is illegal under GDPR. The CNIL has begun issuing formal notices to website managers using Google Analytics…”

This follows the January 2022 Austrian Data Protection Authority’s decision to declare Google Analytics illegal to use under GDPR.

    Hello @webministeren,

Yes, Jetpack does comply with GDOR outside the EU. We have put together a FAQ about that you’re welcome to check on this page:

    https://automattic.com/automattic-and-the-general-data-protection-regulation-gdpr/

As you mentioned the Stats feature specifically, personally identifying information is only kept for?logged in users of WordPress.com, which can be opted out from in their?account settings. Also, site visitors can turn on the Do Not Track? option in their web browser if they wish.

Hope that answers your question! Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or need some more help.

    Thanks a lot!

Unfortenuatly these are not quite the answers I’m looking for. I can’t see/read where data is processed? Is data processed inside the E.U. or in the U.S.? How do I choose data to only be processed in a E.U. data center?

Another issue – the user should not by themselves turn on/off “do not track me” in the browser, this must be respected by the cookie consent – in other words Jetpack may not track the behavior from page to page in a session etc. If a visitor does not consent, this must be respected. How do I set Jetpack not tracking a visitor if no consent?

I hope you can answer these questions. Thanks a lot… :o)

Hi, also the italian privacy authority on June 23 declared Google Analytics illegal to use under GDPR, even with anonymized IP (due to all the many other personal data that google can use to link an incomplete IP to a person/device).

If personal data is processed on USA server there can’t be GDPR compliance because on 2020 the Privacy Shield between EU and USA was suspended by EU.

USA security and intellingence have way too much free access to personal data stored on any USA server, this is the problem.

Everyone is switching to Matomo stats…

So it is very important for every webmaster to know:
    1. if Jetpack’s Site Stats process data ALSO on USA data center or if we can choose to use ONLY EU data center servers.
    2. if the visitors’ IPs are anonymized or “full”.

    Thank you in advance.

    With love,
    Claudio
