• I have a website example.com that I want to switch to multisite.

    On my main root site my permalink is;
    example.com/category/blog-post.html

    I have a subdirectory with name /blog/ with another wordpress installation.
    My Blog permalink is; example.com/blog/blog-post/

    If i switch to multisite will it allow me to create a subdirectory with the name /blog/ which will have a different wordpress installation to support the previous permalink structure.

    Let’s be sure I understand correctly. Your proposed multisite is installed in the domain’s public root directory. Public root also has a /blog/ sub-directory which also contains a WP installation. The root installation is currently single-site WP. Both installations currently work correctly right? Then converting to multisite will also work. You just cannot map any network sub-site to a virtual /blog/ sub-folder since it physically exists on the server.

    The directives in .htaccess which invoke WP will only do so when there is no match to an actual server directory or file.
