Small update, read in several online posts that import works fine with wp3.3.1. So proceeded to install this older version and bingo, the importer now works fine, video iframes are now pulled.

Next I will need to see if upgrading to 3.6.1 keeps the posts intact…

Will revert once I have tested it all.

Ok,got it to work all fine.

After the importer finished its work, I created a duplicate package of the entire wp and db using Duplicator plugin for backup.

I proceeded to upgrade wp manually to 3.6.1 just to be safe, and it worked like a charm.

Don’t think this is a resolved case as far the Importer is concerned, but am happy to set this post as resolved if you want me to.

Also, I noticed on previous attempts a small problem with the Importer duplicating posts when I rerun it.
I run an image importer tool such as Cache Image plugin to retrieve images from the blogger site and rewrite post links to point to local images.
If I run importer again, it does not recognise the updated posts (with local images) and re-imports these posts. Maybe something you might want to look into.

All the best, and thank you for import plugin, even with its faults, it still allowed me to move to wp which is so much more flexible than blogger.

    Hi Aurovrata,
there was an issue with an earlier version where the wrong “santiser” was being used.

However the changes mentioned in that are in the current beta. So it could be somehting else.

Can I check something so I know I’m testing the right thing?

Is the post that does not come through text and video or just video?
When you say blank, is the text missing or just the video?

    cheers,

    Andy

    Hi Andy

    pertinent question indeed.

Most of the blogger posts where just videos (no additional text), and when imported, the wp posts where just blank.

A few blogger video posts had one or two lines of text.
In this case, when imported into wp, just the text appeared.

However, if I recall the above cases where true for both v0.5 and beta of the importer. Hope that gives you some lead.

Do let me know if you want me to run some more tests, glad to be of help.

I’ve run the latest beta (0.7) with both the old and new style Youtube videos and they both come across ok.

However, I’ve not changed anything since 3 weeks ago that might change this behaviour so I’m not optomistic that it will improve for you.

If you do remove the old posts and re-import then don’t forget to empty the trash before re-importing.

    Hi Andy

sorry, been super busy with work and didn’t get a chance to come back to this work. I hope to be able to complete the transfer of the current blogger site (www.we2ours2.in) to a wordpress site sometimes next month. I shall test the plugin again to give you some feedback.

    kind regards

I just used this plugin to import a Blogger blog that contained a whole bunch of embedded iframes from Vimeo — and they were all stripped out in the importing process.

I followed aurovrata’s solution above, doing a fresh install of WP 3.3 (had to use a fresh database, too), rerunning the plugin, then upgrading to the latest version of WP again. With that method, the Vimeo iframes showed up just fine.

I’m glad somebody else posted a workaround here for me to follow, but it would save a lot of effort if this plugin didn’t strip out Vimeo iframes in the first place.

wondering if this is related to a different issue.

Do you get this message in your logs?
PHP Warning: DOMDocument not found, unable to use sanitizer

Do you have the php-xml module installed in Apache?
