• Just installed version 1.5 of string locator on a WordPress 4.2.2 installation.

    There is no link to string locator under the WordPress tools menu. There is only “available tools, import, and export”. There is no string locator option. I deactivated and reactivated the plugin. There is still no link to string locator.

    Hi,

    Is your site by any chance a Multisite? If so the menu is found in the Network Admin section of your site.

    If you’re not on a Multisite setup, are you on an elevated account? The plugin requires you have the edit_themes capability, if you don’t have this it won’t be available to you.

    Not multi-site. Standard wordpress install on 4.2.2.

    Also my account is the full administrator for the site and is still in the “administrator” group. I just double checked for you.

    Perhaps it is a security plugin or something else that is causing the problem. However I decided to try the search and replace plugin and it worked fine. I’m only sharing debug information with you to help you improve your plugin.

    Do you have the Editor option available to you under the Appearances menu?

    It sounds strange that you shouldn’t be seeing the option.

    Alternatively, if you try to access it directly via /tools.php?page=string-locator what do you get?

    Hello, to update this Support thread as its referring to my WP 4.2 single install and problem with this plugin,
    after several versions try-outs I couldn’t get String Locator to appear in Tools menu.
    I’ve also tried above suggestion with link /wp-admin/tools.php?page=string-locator
    – that returned wp page with notification about insufficient access right to see page, but it is rather not found page error, so any help would be appreciated.

    Best regards

    Hi @n381,

    As your problem is with a single site setup, would you mind making a separate thread for your problem, as it is most likely not related to the problems Ben was (is?) having?

    Thank you very much ??

    Hi @turkishdynamite,

    As this is a 2 month old topic, relating to a previous version of WordPress, please create a new topic of your own and I’ll be happy to look at the problems you are experiencing with you ??

    Hi, I’m having this same issue on one of our sites. Single-site, menu doesn’t show up, can’t access page directly because of insufficient permissions error even on administrator account. Any advice or solutions?

    Never mind, found my solution.

    We had iThemes plugin installed, and “Disable File Editor” was enabled. This added a line to the wp-config.php file that disabled the “edit_theme” permission.

    Glad you figured out what was causing it for you ??

    For future reference, would you be able to create a new topic if an issue should arise, as this topic is quite old and there have been new versions of both WordPress and the plugin it self in that time frame? Thank you.

    You need to go to wp-config.php and find the line
    define(‘DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT’, TRUE);
    make sure it is set to FALSE

    define(‘DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT’, FALSE);

    or remove that line entirely

    Hi,

    Just following up here and wondering if you managed to get the plugin to show up for you ?
