It doesn’t work for me on external pages. Tried a Wikipedia page but just see the loading animation and that’s it. Works on internal pages.

If this works properly you can turn it into a very useful plugin. I was looking for something that will display third party RSS feed article page(in its original view) in a modal window.
It will put an end to the never ending discussion of the legality and copyrights when displaying another website feed articles. The copyright owner gets his article displayed in his own site and the referring website doesn’t loose the reader/customer by redirecting him/her to the original article site.
In my case I use a plugin that creates posts from external RSS feeds and puts it in a category “syndicated”. Clicking on the article usually redirects you to the third party original article or displays the what’s available in the feed and ads a link “Read the full original article” to the bottom of the post.
I was hoping to find a plugin that when you click on a post(in the front page it’s usually title and excerpt, sometimes featured image too) will display posts from that particular category(“syndicated” in my case) in a modal window.
It functionality could also be tied to a particular widget – all links from the widget to be displayed in a modal.
    Just some food for thought…

@klmnt Working with external pages is very unreliable. The functionality is there for those that can fiddle with it or are using it across external sites that they own and can modify.

You can see the Wikipedia link is working on our demo site: https://wp-post-modal.allureprojects.com/ (even though it isn’t pulling in all the images/css/js). This is the best that it will get when pulling from a external site you don’t own. Also, it’s choosing the right div ID to target can make a difference between nothing loading and it working.

I released version 2.1.5 of the plugin which includes a new “iframe method” for loading external pages. This may help.
