If you can’t find the custom fields section then that’s a separate issue as that’s certainly not gone from WordPress!
Whilst in the post/page editor click on the Screen Options tab in the top right. Is Custom Fields one of the options? It should be. Make sure this is ticked. If it was then that means it should be displaying but, based on my own experience, can sometimes be in the last place you’re looking – if you have multiple columns in use for your editor screen then it may be hidden in any of the columns. But it should certainly be there!
