    Hi,
we all have to get our sites ready for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that is to come over Europe by May 25. Hence, we have to check if any of our plugins collect personal data of the visitors.
Please tell me if Optin Forms collects or tracks data, or hopefully that it doesn’t?!
    Thank you in advance!
    Best wishes,
    Danny

    Hi Danny,

Visitor data is not being collected by the plugin.

When the visitors enter their information ( name and email ) into the forms and submit the form, that information is forwarded to the email newsletter provider ( Mailchimp, GetResponse… ), the plugin does not save/store that information.

But I’m not sure if storing that data would be breaching the rules, since most of the plugins for newsletter subscription store the data visitors willingly entered in the form so they can subscribe. In any case, this plugin does not store that information.

Just released the update, it adds a checkbox for the visitor to confirm the subscription and has a link to the privacy policy of the newsletter system provider. It’s on by default and can be disabled under “Form Options”.

Based on the research I’ve done that’s all that is needed to be GDPR compliant. But pretty much every article I’ve read made sure to point out that it’s not 100% definite information and is best to talk to a lawyer.

We’ll keep monitoring the situation and if other changes are needed we’ll implement them.
