I tested over a dozen plugins looking for a simple and effective method to secure a post or page. This plugin does it very well. Redirects anonymous users to the login.php page and if authentication and authorization are successful takes them on to the content they were trying to reach.

Role based granularity works great. combine this with User Role Editor and you’ve got the beginnings of a useful CMS.
