• Greetings – I installed the free version Complianz plugin on a client’s website about two and a half years ago for testing. The site was a single-language site and thus no multi-language plugin was used (should not be necessary). Things went well initially.

The plugin was installed and configured, and the client wrote their cookie policy in Icelandic. When the plugin received an update, the text my client entered was overwritten by the default English cookie policy text.

It has been so long ago that I do not remember exactly what the plugin looked like. That said, we started using the WebToffee plugin after that. This plugin allows users to write their policies as they see fit, and the updates do not seem to affect any custom language/policy entries.

Does the Complianz plugin still work the way it once did? By that I mean does it still overwrite the default policy when updated? We have generally been happy with the WebToffee plugin; however, they recently announced a significant price increase.

Since Complianz offers a price for unlimited website support, the Complianz plugin would be worth checking out again if the overwrite issue is resolved. If a multi-language plugin is required, then how compatible is Complianz with WPML?

    Hello @boardboss,
Thank you for your message and for considering Complianz.
Sorry to hear that the legal document/translations had been overwritten, this should not happen under normal circumstances. If you had translated Complianz’ files by using a plugin such as Loco Translate, edited translation files will indeed get overwritten (this would happen with any other plugin as well). You can always reach out to us with issues like these, we are happy to provide a solution.

Complianz generates legal documents on separate pages, previous documents should not get overwritten. To edit a legal document generated by Complianz, you can disable “Sync with Complianz” for that specific document/page. This means that Complianz will not automatically update the page anymore, and you can make changes to the document as you wish.

You can contribute Icelandic translations through the official WordPress Translation Hub, so that everyone can use them: Translating WordPress – Complianz GDPR. However, Complianz fully supports multilanguage plugins such as WPML or Polylang.

    Hope this helps.
    Kind regards,
    Jarno
