Does this work for a multisite?

I have a multisite –
Does this work on a multisite? If so, can you explain how to set it up? Would every subsite have to go through a separate setup or would the main network settings work for all sites?

+1 for multisite! I think @webnashr nailed it:
if the plugin is network activated, the menu of the plugin must show up in the network admin (not in subsites) and only the super admin can set the options and see the notifications, and the settings are used network-wide; but if the plugin is not network activated, if it is active in a subsite the site admin can see and set the options as a single site.
That’s how it should work.
FTR I currently have Postman set up on multisite 4.2.3 and it’s working perfectly in subsites. I would just like the option to configure it, manage it, and watch logs in one place (network activated, network managed), since I run the entire mu for one single company.
Great work, excellent plugin, Jason.
Postman looks amazing and works perfectly in “per-site” mode on WPMU.
Global configuration in WPMU when the plugin is network activated would make it even better.
+1 for the suggestions earlier in this thread.Yoast SEO plugin has a Multisite configuration that simply allows to choose a site the contains the correct settings and then duplicate them to other sites. That might be a quick fix – or maybe even the way to do it and maintain the flexibility.
@kasbrahan, I like your suggestion.. copying the configuration from one site to another is certainly easier to implement that an actual central configuration!
Yoast SEO also has a setting that defines what user level has acces to modifying the settings on the sub sites. By hiding the settings page to non-allowed users it should provide a pretty useful way of administrating the global settings. Can’t actually see what isn’t covered by doing it this way.
If set to Super Admin it seems pretty close to actual global settings. Just better ??
In cases where single sites admins needs access, you simply select another level. Sites that need individual configuration can easily be managed this way as well. Please count me as a vote for this. The ability to setup network wide settings for a multisite is pretty essential to running a multisite in an environment where you can’t rely on
mail()
to send reliable emails, for example running on a number of IaaS services where some email providers don’t inherently trust email coming from a random server IP.I would generally prefer to be able to have all outbound email for my multisites to go through a more reliable email service such as Mandrill or Mailgun than just hope and pray the system sent email will just happen to go out.
Sounds like quite a promising plugin, @jasonhendriks. I’m looking forward to try it out.
I probably should try it before giving feedback, so I apologize in case I drop the ball, but I tend to think the suggestion by @webnashr would not work well for many multisites. It would be nice to be able to enable it network wide, so all email is sent through the network setting, unless a subsite wants to use a different email. It would then also be good if the subsites can add their own settings, without seeing the default settings.
E.g. I have one site where visitors can make a reservation. The confirmation email would preferably be sent by an email address from the corresponding domain. Another site only sends email when someone f.ex. resets a password. For this site it would be good enough to use the network settings.
Either way, thank you for your dedication to make it awesome. That’s a joy.
Some great ideas here. While I’d love to have some network settings that would enable me to send network-related emails via smtp, but the individual sites would probably want to have the option to use smtp (and their own smtp server) or not. I don’t know if something like that is even possible, I’m a little weak when it comes to MU.
As a followup, if I don’t “network activate” the plugin, I can activate it on the primary blog and Postman sends the network emails as I wanted.
Hi there Jason . . .
I was just looking at some threads and came across this one again. It looks like it has come a long way. Also, there are some other good suggestions in appears like.
Where do ya think we are on potentially implementing something? Just curious what your thought might be at this point . . .
??
My next priorities are the Mandril API and then the retry failed mail for version 1.7.
After that I’ll do multisite in v2.0
I moved provinces this summer, took some time from the world to focus on me. I’ll get back into hobby coding come this fall. Probably start v2 in October.
Hi
I’m looking for a multisite solution and I would be happy to use this on a site by site basis. Seeing that others had used it that way, I tried it today on a single site – It took wordpress down with a 503. the sites came back the second I deleted the plugin. I tried it again, just to see if perhaps it was a transitory problem – same thing happened.
I would really like to use it – Are there any known conflicts that might be causing the down? I am using the latest version of WP – I don’t know what others are using.
Any suggestions welcome.
Hi @mdunham thanks for writing.
If you could please start your own forum topic that would be great and I will help you there, this thread is specifically for new feature requests in the multi site version.
Short answer is 503 is a PHP crash and might be a library problem, or a PHP version conflict. Best way to solve it is to enable WordPress debugging and see what the log says. 503 may not be directly related to Postman, though it is obviously the trigger.
I am very interested in a multisite update to this plugin. Any progress?
I was aiming for end of October for 1.7 (Mandrill API / SendGrid API)
And then after that is multisite.
Multisite development has begun.
