  • Seems to work almost perfectly.

    Can’t easily select the shortcode in wp-admin/widgets.php because this version of WP (apparently) sets the following CSS:
    .widgets-holder-wrap .sidebar-description {
    user-select: none;
    }

    Not to difficult to disable that style rule in a code inspector though, and you could override it in your theme. Maybe something the plugin developers could look at?

    Another slightly worrying thing about this plugin is that it doesn’t appear to have been maintained for quite a while. But for now the plugin is doing just what I need.
