Does WordPress automatically do 301 redirect if I change permalink?

For example in the past, this link:
https://znanost.geek.hr/?p=21025781would have redirected to a proper permalink:
https://znanost.geek.hr/clanak/cudovisna-crna-rupa-budi-se-nakon-26-godina-drijemeza/But it does not work anymore. I thought canonical URLs would have taken care of it.
What has changed?
