• Does anyone know if all wordpress websites communicate to a sever? i thought it all ran on the one server your website is actually on?

This is a follow on for not being able to login on wordpress sites and then not being able to view the site.

  • The only external site that WordPress communicates with by default is here (ie www.ads-software.com) to check that your install is up to date. and that’s only once a day.

We’re seeing a significant increase in these login/viewing issues and they all appear to be host or ISP related. It’s definitely nothing within WordPress itself. Our best guess is that, following recent mass attacks word wide, some hosts/ISPs may have over-tightened their own security measures – resulting in problems for their own users. Have you spoken to your hosts and/or ISP about this?

okay, im thinking that it is something in the whole internet which is going into each host (which will be what they all have in common). But what are the chances of them all doing it last night? very very slim chances. im guessing there has been a clash between wordpress and the new output in servers through all hosts.

This is nothing to do with WordPress itself as far as we can tell. Some hosting companies are currently dealing with mass attacks on their servers. Others, in response to recent attacks, may have overly tightened their security settings – inadvertently harming their own customers. There is no class with WordPress and anything.

But what are the chances of them all doing it last night?

Very high. Mass attacks often target multiple hosts simultaneously.
