I need to retrieve images from my website. I can’t just replace them. I wondered if WP holds my images on their servers or would my Domain hold them.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

Are you using www.ads-software.com or WordPress.com? If you’re using www.ads-software.com, which this support forum is for, then they stay in your hosting. Everything stays in your hosting server. ??

    Hardeep,

I’m pretty sure I’m using WordPress.com, but I’m not certain. This is the web address I use to reach my edit page:
    https://andrewwaddington.com/wp-login.php

Would this imply the images are kept on my domains server?

Your site is self-hosted and is not hosted on WordPress.com.

I wondered if WP holds my images on their servers or would my Domain hold them.

Your images are all stored on your server and no where else.

Ok thanks so I guess I contact my server Go-Daddy. Thanks you, this is a big help.

    Hi,

You can find them in /wp-content/uploads/ folder if you look via FTP. ??

    Hardeep,

Regretfully I’m a WP beginner. I’ll get a friend to help me tomorrow. I Googled FTP and see it means File Transfer Protocol. But I am unsure precisely how to retrieve the images. My friend should understand your suggestion.

    Many thanks.

It won’t be hard once you learn, hopefully, and you’ll get used to it. Have a great day. ??

    Hardeep,

Can I just ask one further question:

Assuming I am able to retrieve images from:

/wp-content/uploads/ folder if you look via FTP. ??

Would I be able to replace those same images afterwards?

The reason I ask is complex, but essentially I have some images on my site that were saved without their color profile attached.

    Hi,

Yes, you can replace those images but they won’t be recognized by WordPress. So the best way to replace a media file is by using this plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/enable-media-replace/

This should be a part of the core, but for now you can use this plugin.

Don’t forget to mark this issue as resolved if it solves your problem. ??
