doesn't pick up existing stats

What is the plugin/method you used to collect your existing stats?

stats plugin inside jetpack

Jetpack’s statistics are kept on their server (not where your WordPress installation is) and they do not provide statistics export.

If they would have statistics export then such feature would be possible.

unfair review if you usk me, this plugin suits most of my needs and ranking it with one star is just absurd for the use i see in it

Just how exactly do you expect a plugin to show you visitors from before you added it? I think you need the WP Time Travel Stats 1.7 plugin
