Doesn’t serve its intended purpose well
-
I think this plugin needs to be removed from the core installation, or at least have an option during installation to omit it, Akismet, and the sample page, post and comment.
I recognize that a lot of my fellow developers have built their own custom installation scripts to take care of this, but since the way I do things is constantly evolving, I always do a manual installation, and having to delete all of the sample stuff is an extra step I wish I didn’t need to do!
A simple checkbox on the installation screen to the effect of “Skip loading sample content and plugins” would work.
As to the matter of this plugin serving a purpose for new developers to learn how to work with a plugin… How many developers are actually getting their introduction to plugin development this way? Plus, this plugin is actually a really bad example. It doesn’t follow any of the modern conventions of a good WordPress plugin.
There is ample documentation online, and this could easily be made available to download as a starter plugin in a tutorial on “Building Your First WordPress Plugin”.
