• Too complicated. I tried the API option and took me down a long path and then with multiple errors that overlapped each other so I couldn’t read it. It was a list of possible errors so I guess I need to go through each one to see which error related to me? So I then tried the non-API version and I entered the address and didn’t put the marker in the right place. Plus I wanted it to show a local area not the whole western US! Then I had to re-enter the address and it created multiple markers. Anyway it’s too frustrating with no good instructions and not intuitive. I downloaded flexible map and had no problem using that plug in. I recommend that one instead.

  • Hi @victor68

Thank you for getting in touch, sorry to hear you have had this experience with our software.

We have documentation, including a video tutorial, on creating a Google Maps API key.

For some time now Google have stipulated that you must create a key, keyless access hasn’t been possible for several years now. We appreciate that this process can seem complex at first, we’re here to help and happy to guide you through the process if you would be open to trying again?

The OpenLayers API uses the Nominatim geocoding service. Unfortunately, this service is inferior to Google’s geocoder. Please note that our plugin does not handle geocoding at all. We simply send the address you entered to a 3rd party geocoding service (Google or Nominatim) and receive coordinates back from them. These coordinates dictate where the marker will be placed. We don’t have any control over the coordinate data we get back from them, and we don’t manipulate those coordinates at all. If you’re having issues with geocoding then you have a few options

    – Click “Edit marker location” in the marker table. You can drag and drop the marker to the correct location from there.
    – Contact Nominatim to let them know the returned coordinates for that address are wrong.
    – Use Google, which is more comprehensive and more accurate in our experience.

Our plugin will remember the area you set in on the map edit page, if you want to show a local area, then you need to pan and zoom the map to that area and click “Save Map” to define the initial boundaries.

If there’s any way we can turn this review around, please do let us know. We’re here to help, and can be reached through our support desk.

Again, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

    Kind regards
    – Perry
