Doesn't Work For Me

  • I worked with this plugin for over 10 hours and never got it to work (I’m using the newest version of WordPress as of 7/9/11). I got the same results I was getting by just using HTML to place the table into my page. I need to be able to set the table width so it doesn’t run over into my sidebar. I had no trouble setting up the table in the plugin, but the end result was the same, the table width wouldn’t adjust to a smaller size. I read the documentation, read the faqs, and printed it all out so I could read it and apply what I was reading right away. I do use Dreamweaver, HTML, and CSS to design web pages but I couldn’t figure out how to apply any of it to this plugin. I looked at the pages containing tables on the Demo page and the screen shots. There I saw the kind of end result I’m trying to accomplish, so I’m guessing it might just be me. I’ll keep trying for a while longer. If I get it to work I’ll let you know. If you know something I can try, please let me know.

    Hi Jim,

    have you tried to set the column widths with CSS code, as shown in the example in the FAQ?

    Also, if you post the URL to the page with your table, I’ll gladly take a look at it, to see if I can find out what needs to be done.

    Hello Tobias,

    I did make some changes to the CSS code as you suggested and the columns are okay. I don’t know what to do to remove the big space between my Lions row and Steelers row. The URL to the page is https://pigskinfanaticblog.com/?page_id=698&preview=true.

    Hello Tobias,

    In addition to the above post I have additional information. I’ve been working with this all day and am getting closer to the solution, I think.

    When I check mark the following: Yes, include and load the plugin’s default CSS Stylesheets. This is highly recommended, if you use one of the JavaScript libraries! I get the table with the Lions row and the Steelers row separated by a lot of space. But, when I don’t check the above mentioned selection the space between the rows is okay but I lose the lines highlighting the cells. Just thought I would add this in case it’s helpful in getting my problem figured out.

    I think I solved my CSS problem. Also, I tried to send a donation but was told to check my account later to see if it went through. I’ll check and if it didn’t, I’ll do it again.

    Hi Jim,

    thanks for publishing the page, now I can see your table.
    From what you write (and from what I can see on the page), you seem to have removed the large space by unchecking that checkbox.
    Is that is working for you, great! There’s no need to use the default styling if you are happy with how the table now looks.

    However, you seem to have added CSS code to the “Custom CSS class” field on the “Edit” screen of your table. This is not the correct place though. Please move the code to the “Custom CSS” textarea on the “Plugin Options” screen, as it won’t have an effect otherwise!

    Hi Tobias,

    I wanted you to see what my table looks like if I leave the box checked that loads the default CSS. The link again is https://pigskinfanaticblog.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=698&action=edit&message=6.

    Could you let me know if there is something I can do to leave the Default CSS box checked and at the same time remove that large gap between my first and second table row. I did a little experiment to see if the gap would still be there if I added another row after my second row and there was no large gap, so the problem only shows up between the first and second <td> rows.

    Hi Jim,

    ah, ok, now I see what’s going on.

    That gap is the result of the small tables having the DataTables library activated.
    The best fix I see for this is to deactivate the “Enable JavaScript library” checkbox on the “Plugin Options” screen. That will allow you to leave the “Use Default CSS” checkbox activated.
