Doing a clean update

    Ok, I’ve successfully moved my blog to a different domain and server by copying the old WP files and db from old server.

    Was wondering, can I install a brand new WP and just put the old server db into the fresh install? I tried this and it failed for some reason. Couldn’t find how in Codex.

  • If you’re using the same version from old site to new site, then there should be no reason using a fresh download of WordPress would fail.

    If your old site (and database) used an older version of WordPress, then you’ll want to run upgrade.php after you install the new files.

    Thanks! yes, the versions didn’t match. I didn’t run upgrade.
