When searching on Member Name, the visitor is required to enter the full name of the user or no results are found. How can I change the search on member name to a partial match search?

Eg. searching “Bob” should find “Bob Jones” and “Bob Smith” but it says nothing was found. I have to enter “Bob Smith” to get a matching search result for Bob Smith. I would like a search on “Bob” to return both Bob Smith and Bob Jones using the partial match on “Bob”.

Any advice please?

Do you have the First Name and Last Name fields in the Profile Form? Or are you using a custom text field to let users enter their full names?

I have First Name and Last Name fields, but I had to create a field called Member Name to be able to search on the whole name or part of it. This used to work on an older version of Ultimate Member.

What filter field should I add now to my directory to allow searching on First Name and Last Name at the same time?

I tested it with the general search bar. Are you filtering “Bob” with the general search bar?

Apologies for the confusion – the general search bar does work as expected, however in searching the “member name” field (a custom field containing the first name and last name) is it possible to make partial searches work?

I created a new field called “Member Name” in the Profile Form and then added it as a Member Directory filter. I’ve updated Bob Ong and Bob Smith to have their full name in the Member Name field. Hi, that is super weird, it just doesn’t work on my setup. Would you possibly be willing to come onto my site and take a look and maybe see if you can spot where I’ve gone wrong?

Please try clearing the UM Profile cache in WP Admin > Ultimate Member > Dashboard. Let’s see if this is causing the issue.

I’ve cleared the cache – it said 0 users cached but I cleared it anyway. Unfortunately it didn’t make any difference.
