• I recently forwarded my domain name from my old site to new. I then tried to change the WordPress Site Name and URL in General Settings using my old log-in. Now I cant even log into the back end of my site using any of the names (old or new). I get various error message including Error code: ERR_CONNECTION_ABORTED. Please help!

( I must also add that I am not that tech savvy with websites so need very simplistic directions if possible). Thanks in advance.

  • Like you 2BK I have changed my Site URL and locked myself out. Like you I can’t get in. However I am just starting out and have only been putting up some test pages. I have just purchased web hosting with Parallels and it came with WordPress already installed. At first I could get into the WP admin at .net/wordpress/wp-admin and happily went through a tutorial to install vantage and some widgets building six practice pages… but despite hitting publish I could not see them if logged out of the control space. I noted that all the pages had .net/wordpress/ before the page code. Wanting to use WordPress as CMS and not as a bolg site I wanted to get the pages to be at …net/home or …net/contact and so tried to change the home and site URLs in general settings… now I can’t get in at either .net/wp-admin (server not found) nor at .net/wordpress/wp-admin (file not found). For me I think it is time to start over. I want to wipe all the stuff that I have put on to the site and wipe wordpress and then start again. I can get into the site control space at Parallels and see an option to uninstall wordpress. Should i take it? Thanks for any advice… this is all new territory to me… I have only ever built a site in 1&1 using their webbuilder. Thanks

I wonder how long it takes them to respond?

Actually, because @wylieone posted in your thread – that reduced the likelihood of someone replying – here’s why:

Sorry about that – here’s the info you’ll need to fix your site:

Thank you for the response @wpyogi. This is really helpful.
However, I cant even get into my back-office to implement any of the changes.
Is there a way to resent my WP admin account so I can access it?

Yep, the article I linked to has several methods that don’t require you to login – but you will need access to your site files on the server (via FTP or Cpanel) or to your database. Check with your hosting company about how to do that if you don’t have it set up yet.

Thanks. How do I get into my back office?
Do I have to go through the instructions you mentioned. Is there another way for me to sign in as I was doing before i.e. domanin/wp-admin.

As I mentioned I am not very website savy.
    Thanks in advance.

You cannot fix this via the Dashboard – you will need to use FTP or Cpanel to access your site files on the server. Ask your hosting company for help with this – it’s not part of WP – it’s a way to access your site files on the server.

    BTW, does this not work?

I logged in using that link but had to re-register but now when I go in the back office I cant make any changes…seems like the account may only be set up as a contributor. Its telling me to contact site administrator for changes. When I try signing in the old birabiro account it redirects me to the original sign in-feel like I am going in circles. The hosting company suggests that this particular part of issue is a wordpress problem. Right now not sure whats the next move here? ;/

If you are not an admin, who is?

EDIT – can you get in touch with that person? If not, you will have to get access to the database via phpMyAdmin and create an admin account directly in the database. (I can’t find those details right this second, but can ask someone if need be.)

    Hello,
my website domain https://www.followingblissyoga.com expired I purchased a new domain https://www.arvadafbyoga.com and on the back office on settings I Updated the URL to https://www.arvadafbyoga.com
Now I can not log in using my previous access username and Password
    HELP!

    @karlapuskas

Please start your own thread. Busting into someone else’s especially when it is 4 months old will not get you any help.
