• Okay…newbie here.

I setup a wordpress.com website a few days ago without realizing its limitations for what I am wanting. I paid for domain hosting to get rid of the “.wordpress” on my website so the domain I want to keep is jknightplandesign.com.

I signed up for BlueHost and tried the one-click setup but I’m not sure it’s all working correctly. The only choice I had when going through the setup was to add this site: https://xx.xxx.xxx.xxx/~login/wp-admin/ (where the x’s and “login” are replaced with my info) and not my jknightplandesign.com domain.

If I go to my website (jknightplandesign.com) it shows the old (blank) wordpress site. I bought a theme and have it loaded but it redirects to the wordpress.com layout and even logs me into my free wordpress.com dashboard.

So … what am I doing wrong?

I just want my domain to point to the site I’m building not the wordpress.COM stuff and I have no idea why it logs me into my free site.

I should note: I have used and designed personal websites using Dreamweaver and other domain and hosting sites without any issues. WordPress is frustratingly complex to get things up and running I feel like (but I have used WordPress at work and love it which is why I am here). I have not had this many issues doing sites with FTP upload and Dreamweaver and I consider myself pretty damn tech-savvy. This stuff is completely escaping me, though.

You need to contact the folks over a wordpress.com to have your domain name transferred to your Bluehost account.
