• I recently decided to try using wordpress for non profit site after hearing about all the great benefits and I also needed a CMS and thought I should give wordpress a try. I read all the info and taught myself how to do it. I downloaded wordpress (hosting with godaddy where my database is setup) and am have been working on customizing a custom theme. I update the domain name records and it works fine when you enter the domain. However, once you leave the home page you start seeing the domain name from my source hosting account. You can see what I mean here. https://www.hearttheearth.org If you go to the about page you will start see https://www.bosshi.com with the corresponding file and page number.

I am new to wordpress and was wondering if someone can tell me why this is happening and how to fix it. Thanks!!

  • Let me get this right: you created a WordPress site using domain name x, and then switched to using domain name y, to access the same site?

That might turn out to be a problem, since for each and every post, the domain name is registered in the database (the domain name with which the site was approached when the page/post was created).

I’ve not seen another solution then to browse through the database manually (with phpmyadmin for instance, the wp_posts table) and to change all those references.

Tedious, but AFAICT the only solution.

Yes I used my unlimited hosting account to host the database. I was planning to do this for all my non profits to save them money. It didn’t occur to me that it would be a problem. SO I am not sure I understand why you mean about changing the references manually?

Browse the wp_posts table, and you know what I mean…

OK so I am going to go in and backup then look around. If I change the references though wont it break the links?

Ah ok nevermind I see. I made all the changes but it isn’t taking affect. Does it take time to populate or is there some step I missed?

I have to ask the obvious: you did change the domain name in the Settings section of WordPress, right (‘WordPress address’ and ‘blog address’)?

OMG I am a total moron no I didn’t! I missed that. It totally fixed it thank you so so much.

I hate those totally obvious things you miss. Wow, that was one of the worst duh moments I have had in a while.
