And the real domain I am trying to map has absolutely nothing on it. no wordpress nothing…

Without knowing those 6 domains, I can’t look but I imagine it’s a control panel issue where the domains are not being pointed at your one WordPress that is running multisite.

Your best bet might be to talk with your web host first and then come back here with more info for us if you need more help yet.

Multisite isn’t all that hard to set up but you can get confused by concepts.

And don’t get too upset with your host if they can’t help you as multisite isn’t the normal WordPress based site they are probably used to.

That’s why we are here so feel free to comeback here after you talk with them…

I chatted with them for over an hour – no help – then they ask me to place a ticket which i did & the reply was we don’t support wordpress…

    I own these, ssgalleriesllc.com, lpalmeter.com, lewispalmeter.com sandypalmeter.com, shaneshannon.com & alteredmisfitz.com which the altermisfitz.com is the domain i am trying to map to ssgalleriesllc.com/alteredmisfitz

Nice to know they have your back then…

I know little about Dreamhost so can you tell me what control panel they run? CPanel, Hestia, and WebAdmin are some of the ‘brands’ but I think I’ve used almost every CP ever built by now.

    ssgalleriesllc.com (network multisite), lpalmeter.com, lewispalmeter.com sandypalmeter.com, shaneshannon.com & alteredmisfitz.com all others are created as subsites ssgalleriesllc.com/lpalmeter, ssgalleriesllc.com/lewispalmeter ssgalleriesllc.com/sandypalmeter, ssgalleriesllc.com/shaneshannon & ssgalleriesllc.com/alteredmisfitz

Network Admin: ssgalleriesllc Sites is my starting point & I went to ssgalleriesllc.com/alteredmisfitz (Mysites Edit) change the address to alteredmisfitz.com. The visit button takes me to the site that contains nothing not even wordpress but the dashboard is a 404 error. I went to dreamhost c panel & created an A file with the IP of ssgalleries.com (original A file is un-editable). And if I put everything back to normal multisite dashboard is there but the still need to figure out how to map in order link real sites with network subsites. & Thank you for your response.

    https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020947731-Where-can-I-find-cPanel-

    Does DreamHost offer cPanel?
cPanel is not available at DreamHost. Instead, DreamHost uses a custom-built panel to manage your websites, databases, email, and billing. Most tasks performed on cPanel can also be completed using the DreamHost panel.

Many customers find that the DreamHost panel is more intuitive and easier to use than cPanel. In addition, the DreamHost panel runs on separate servers and doesn’t take up any resources on your web server. You can log into your DreamHost panel at:

I’m no web Guru – have been all over their panel, DNS settings, ftp & ect ect though. Im descent with computers. All a learning experience as I try to build these art web sites. Learning everyday. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You’ll need to remove that first A record on alteredmisfitz.com (I love that domain name) as it points at the wrong IP for your multisite..

Leaving that as is means every other lookup won’t work which will cause all kinds of problems.

Let’s fix that first and you might need to ask Dreamhost to help you there as you mentioned you can’t edit that. Do look for a delete record button or something when looking right at that A Record. The problem record points at 173.236.152.80 instead of 173.236.152.88!

I do see your main site… so that is working!

NO Delete or edit buttons I will have to contact them i believe you are right.

Non-editable DreamHost DNS records for alteredmisfitz.com:
These records were added automatically by DreamHost to provide services (such as web hosting or mail) which are active for this domain.

And yes ssgalleriesllc.com works as advertised as my multisite.

would a redirect work or am i gonna have to get them to delete the A record for me ?

    Thread Starter stcvbnm

    (@stcvbnm)

from Editt function in hosting area

    Redirect
(Redirect this domain to another site, changing the browser’s address in the process. Learn more.)

    Domain to redirect:
    sub-domains are okay!alteredmisfitz.com

    Redirect to URL:

Okay, I’m gonna keep the notes I’ve made out and the 4 windows I have open for now while waiting on Dreamhost to help you now.

The next step is to get that control panel to point the alteredmisfitz domain at the directory the multisite is on and then map that domain into the multisite.

Then it’s ‘rinse and repeat’ for the other four domains once they are created.

    (@stcvbnm)

this is where i created the new A record

Add a custom DNS record to alteredmisfitz.com:
    Name:
    (leave blank for just ‘alteredmisfitz.com’)
    .alteredmisfitz.com

    Type:
    (Want MX? Go here!)
