I have never dealt with domain mapping

I have a website, let’s say https://www.mysite.com and it is not multisite. Not going to change it to multisite.

I have my niece who does a fundraising every year for a local charity.

Let’s say her fundraising group name is Doggiesareawesome.

I bought doggiesareawesome.com for her and I want it to go to doggiesareawesome.mysite.com

However I want people to see doggiesareawesome.com

That way she doesn’t have to get hosting. Just like whatever.wordpress.com can get whatever.com

So I bought domain, I made the doggiesareawesome.mysite.com subdomain.

Now what so doggiesareawesome.com shows the doggiesareawesome.mysite.com content. I haven’t installed WordPress in the subdomain.

On the WordPress general settings I have to put the full domain?
Do I have to put a plugin so full domain shows the subdomain content?

Why? That’s just a weird way to start. Why not add doggiesareawesome.com as an add-on domain?
