I enabled the multisite network option yesterday on longworthdental.ca. Today, I noticed that longworthdental.com, which is supposed to point to the “.ca” website, was redirecting to https://www.longworthdental.ca/wp-signup.php instead.

To fix this issue, I tried to use the WordPress MU Domain Mapping Plugin to map longworthdental.com to longworthdental.ca, but I believe I mapped longworthdental.ca to itself. As a result, longworthdental.longworthdental.ca was created, as a fresh WordPress install. Furthermore, I can no longer access the Network Admin menu to fix the problem.

I am certain the original website is still there, because it resolves properly when I disable the multisite option. Also, other websites on the network (like jeremybarr.ca) are loading properly, even if I still can’t access the Network Admin menu through them. I have tried disabling plugins, but that hasn’t helped. I believe I need to know how to temporarily disable all mapping, so that I can go in and re-map correctly.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Regards,

    – Jeremy

I seem to be digging myself deeper into a hole. I renamed the “plugins” folder to “plugins-old”, along with some other W3 Cache files. This allowed me to log in to the network menu, which was text-only for whatever reason. I deleted the “longworthdental.longworthdental.ca”. This fixed the problem of “longworthdental.ca” not displaying, which is certainly a step in the right direction.

Unfortunately, I am not able to log in to the site any more. Entering my username and password into “https://www.longworthdental.ca/wp-login.php” gives a redirect to “https://www.longworthdental.ca/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.longworthdental.ca%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1”.

There might be an easy fix in the forums for this though, and I will have a look when I get up in the morning. Just wanted to post the update to save people from putting their energy into solving a problem that has changed somewhat. Thanks again for any help anyone can provide. ??

Remove the domain mapping plugin. you can;t map the main domain anyway, and this does not fix the problem.
You issue is a mixup of the www and non www addresses of the main site. yes they are two different addresses. humans see them as the same. Computers do not.

Go into your db. Find all instances of the www and remove it.

Thank you for your help, Andrea! I did as you suggested, disabling all plugins and removing all instances of the “www” in the database. However, I was still experiencing the same issue with the site logon.

I noticed that in the phpMyAdmin, “_wrd1” database, opened the “wp_blogs” table. Our main site is “longworthdental.ca”, and the blog ID had been somehow changed to 6. Modified this value to 1, and the network login began to work again. Currently, photos are not loading correctly, but perhaps reactivating the WordPress MU Domain Mapping Plugin will fix this. Any thoughts?

    Thanks again for your help.

Depends on how they’re loading wrong.

No, don’t. It won’t solve anything for you may make thing sworse.

That plugin is for using full domains to the *sub* sites.

You’ll have to look at why the photos aren’t loading correctly. do they have ww in front of them? can you give ore details or even a link?

The images do not have a “www.” in front of them. An example of loading issues can be found at jeremybarr.ca. To verify further, here is a temporary admin account for that site. An example of a problem I am having is that on the jeremybarr.ca website, no images are appearing except for (bizarrely enough), the Twitter icon. At this time, all images are loading correctly on longworthdental.ca (the main site).

    User: wpuser
    Password: Temp1234!

I should mention that I reinstated all the “www.” prefixes in front of domains in the phpMyAdmin page, because this fixed yet another error I was experiencing with regard to the Network Admin. I had reactivated the WordPress MU Domain Mapping Plugin before getting your last message, Andrea, and that had broken the network admin access. Perhaps I should do some more reading through the forums before bothering you helpful people further, since the problem I am currently experiencing is different than the one I posted originally in this thread. Thanks again for your support!

I also just noticed that when I try to login as an admin to the labradordental.ca site, it redirects to the longworthdental.ca admin. I extended the “wpuser” account to these two sites as admin.

For the “images” issue, it looks as if the BlueHost tech who was helping me did not put back the .htaccess file once he was finished testing something. I replaced the code in the .htaccess file and images are back on all my subdomains.

Thank you both very much! You were immensely helpful!
