Domain mapping to Multisite using subdirectories

There are multiple threads all with this question, and most of them have the reply already that No – this is not possible.

Thanks for replying. If I had found them in my searches, I would not have posted the question. It seemded that other folks were doing something different or it was not the same scenario.

Is there a particular part of the scenario that will not work? Is it the sub-directory part or shared hosting or what?

My question is can I map a new domain name to mainsite.domain.com/site2?

AS long as mainsite.domain.com/site2 is part of mainsite.domain.com then the answer is yes you can. There are some very old posts on the Internet that indicate that the DM plugin only works with subdomain installs but it has supported subdirectory installs for more than 3 years.

I ended up moving things around and going with a subdomain install. Have some kinks still to work out but that is for another thread.

i have setup multisite network …… but i m stuck on domain maping
i have 2 sites on one server i want to map sit1.com/abc to abc.com i followed all the steps that were mentioned in domain-mapping plugin but nothing happens… my site site1.com/abc still shows it own content not abc.com’s content …. kindly help

What happens when you go to abc.com?

Guys I’m picking up on the discussion with a similar issue…

I have https://www.example.com (running different platform) then:
https://www.example.com/blog/
https://www.example.fr/blog/
https://www.example.de/blog/

all pointing to the IP address where wordpress is installed (in the root folder of apache)

I did the multisite setup with subdirectory option and I currently have:

https://www.example.com/blog/fr/
https://www.example.com/blog/de/

As you can imagine I would like to have https://www.example.fr/blog/ pointing to https://www.example.com/blog/fr/

I tried playing around with the plugin but first… didn’t let me install the subdomain option ’cause was recognise my installation as running from a folder. So I went for the subdirectory option… but still doesn’t let me edit the domain for each blog for the same reason/issue.

WordPress is definitely installed on the htdocs/ but seems the plugin see the https://www.example.com/blog/ and think it’s under a folder ??

I did had this rule (so apache wasn’t going to look for wordpress installation under the /blog/ folder that doesn’t exist)
