domain move…

  • My domain host told me I needed to find this information out from WordPress regarding what I can do to safely transfer my site (which is strictly a wordpress blog)…

    The situation is this:

    My hosting is with my domain opheliajewellery.com which I can discontinuing so my website that I use wordpress on is daelia.com but it is an add-on domain. My host has told me what I need to do to make daelia.com my main domain (and not an add-on) but they can’t tell me what will happen to my wordpress data with the switch.

    So I would like to know how exactly I can make daelia.com my main account/domain and keep my wordpress stuff exactly the same otherwise my website goes down and I’m not 100% on if I’ll be able to fix it if something doesn’t work after the move.

    Do I just do a backup of the current site, do the switch of the add-on domain to the main domain, then reinstall wordpress and reload the site? Does that work?

  • just download and save your /wp-content folder and wp-config.php
    export database to desktop to save it
    you likely won’t need any of this as your wordpress should continue to work fine if you re-save your permalinks after switch

    if something does happen, then you can install wordpress
    upload your /wp-content folder and wp-config.php and import the database
