Hi guys, I recently transfered my wordpress.com website to a www.ads-software.com website, with my web hoster being 1and1. I got through the installation process fine, but when I log into the dashboard and click onto view my site it says that my domain name has already been registered. I called 1and1 and explained to them my problem and they stated that it has something to do with wordpress. Here is what comes up when I put in my domain name:

    1. Why is my domain home page says “This domain is already registered”?

You are seeing this page because you visit a domain that has not yet replaced the temporary Web page created by hiring a domain or Pack Packs 1 & 1 Hosting. This page / file is named “index.html” and can be overwritten or replaced with a page created by the site owner using web authoring tools 1 & 1 or other software to create web pages.

    2. Why should we put this temporary page for you?

If this site does not include a page / index.html file (or the currently displayed page, a page with the message “Site under construction” or a website created by the owner) visitors trying to access this domain will find an error message indicating that the requested page was not found. Having a temporary page visible in this area, visitors will know that the domain is registered and the site owner know that the DNS servers are routed properly and that everything is ready so you can start building your site.

For a visitor to see your own website, you must include a file called “index.html”.

All this to me looks foreign, so if anybody could help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

It might help if you told us the domain name in question…

FTP into your site (or use whatever file management application your host provides) and delete the index.html file in your domain’s root folder.

I went on filezilla and looked up the index.html file, but it says permission denied. Is there any way to get around that?

You could try adding DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm to the top of an .htaccess file in your domain’s root folder.

    Nothing to do with WordPress.

So, you’ve logged in to your 1and1 dashboard and gone to File Manager (or similar) and tried to delete the index.html file and you don’t have permission to?

As the owner of the site, you should have full access to do what you like with the files. I’d call 1and1 and find out why.

Thanks for the input guys. I contacted 1and1 and they ended up deleting the index.html file for me and that ended up working.
