Domain name Changed

  • Hi-

    My wp site domain name has changed.. I used to just point to my IP address (which is dynamic) but now have finally got around to registering a site name. Is there a way to have my wp blog updated with the new domain name?

    I looked on the help section “Moving WordPress”, but none of those cases speak to just the domain name changing, with the server staying the same..

  • One of those cases does indeed address your question:

    You just need to omit the information about moving the actual files.

    In other words, follow the instructions relating to changing your WordPress address (URI) and the Blog address (URI)

    Awesome.. Thanks, I dove in and it all went very smooth. Only question is how would I change the Links for the Pictures that were contained in the posts? They didnt seem to get updated with the permalinks nor the main option site name..??

    The path to your images included in the posts is stored in the database with the post content.

    The only way that I know of is to use the “search and replace” plugin and change the old path in the whole database.
    BACKUP FIRST, of course, just in case something goes wrong!
