• Hi there

Can’t seem to find an answer to this annoying issue.

So, I have a site https://transenduro.co.uk which I’ve recently “downgraded” from a multisite to single site installation.

I have migrated the site to a new hosting account with 1&1 in order to better keep control of various other sites I have and keep costs down. The migrated site address is showing as https://s639444767.websitehome.co.uk

A couple of years back I had purchased the domain for 10 years, so it was most cost-effective to set it up as an external domain with 1&1 and change the name servers to point to the new “copy” on my new 1&1 webspace. I’ve done this already with another site for the exact same reasons without issue.

Essentially I need transenduro.co.uk visible in the address bar and not the 1&1 webspace address. I’ve tried a couple of methods described to solve the issue when an IP address is visible, but these don’t seem to have done the trick. Perhaps there’s some hangover from my old multisite installation messing things up?

    Any advice welcomed, thanks!

  • Settings > General. What is your site address set to?

Thanks Jacob, both are set to https://s639444767.websitehome.co.uk/

So I guess I just change both of those to transenduro.co.uk?

Ok, you’ll need to get your domain name provider to point the domain to your new hosting. This will typically involve your host telling you details to give to the domain provider. You might be better off just telling your host what you want to do. If their support is good they’ll guide you through the process.

Then you’ll need to move the site to this new URL. This article is a good overview of the process:

Hmmm – I’ve already repointed the nameservers and already migrated to the new hosting and pointed the “external” domain to the site on the new server.

I’ve done exactly the same process on another site, external domain also, and it’s working fine and displaying the correct URL. Only difference being that didn’t begin life as a multisite.

Would changing the site address in General > Settings do the trick? Could it be as simple as that? Will it mess anything up if I change it?!
