• Apologies if this is an inappropriate topic for the forum though I don’t know where else to seek advice. Any pointing in the right direction would be appreciated ??
When I decided to move my blog over from Blogger to a self-hosted WordPress site one of the first things I considered was my domain name. My blogger site is ‘thepaintedhive.blogspot.com’ so I thought ‘thepaintedhive.com’ would be perfect. I soon discovered this name had been taken by an apparent ‘squatter’ who was generating links on their site derived from content on my blog. I found this incredibly frustrating, bordering on plagerism, though is it illegal and does anyone know if there are steps I can take to get them shut down? Or is it just plain bad luck for me?
Again, apologies if I’ve posted this in the wrong forum. Any advice much appreciated.

  • Sadly, content scraping happens all the time. You can go to who is to locate the host provider and inform them of the situation, which is generally against their TOS. No guarantee that will do the trick. On rare occasions, folks have simply asked the scraper to stop and they move on to another victim.

There’s not much you can do about the domain name other than reaching out to the owner (or in the case the content thief) and asking to purchase it. Obviously you could also wait until it expires and hope it doesn’t get renewed.
