• Hi. I’m a basic web designer (NOT developer – databases are a complete loss to me!) but a complete WP novice – and I’ve inherited a WP site which I’ve back-engineered successfully and redesigned it to look and do what my client wanted it to do, all good. No problems.

Without going into a long story – essentially, this is a brand new WP site on a brand new hosted space (windows server from Easily.co.uk) and new domain (also via Easily).

    All is good so far.

However, the new domain space it’s hosted on – and the domain names that are associated with and pointed to it – DOES NOT DISPLAY once the site loads, which means any subsequent copied and pasted page addresses are full of the user gobbledegook. Typing in the (2) domain addresses in a browser will go to it fine, but then the browser displays the WP generated usernumber url, which looks awful and is not great for passing on addresses for specific pages to others.

I’ve read about directory changes, url changes, sub-directory changes etc, but don’t see the specifics that are relevant to this site.

All I need to do is this:

    1) When you type https://www.kidsncancer.org.uk – it goes to the site homepage. Good.

    2) A click on any other page, even a refresh, reverts the url to https://user41534.vs.easily.co.uk/ . Bad.

This applies to all sub-pages from there onwards.

I would like it to stay as https://www.kidsncancer.org.uk/123xyzpage for all pages, all the time.

Also, the entire site is WP and is the only thing hosted on the webspace, so it’s all in the root directory and doesn’t need to be split into a sub directory or anything.

Anyone got the simplest of answers for me??

  • All your links are like this, https://user41534.vs.easily.co.uk/?page_id=5

    Have you adjusted the permalinks?

There y go – Permalinks. Is that what I need to change? Cheers for that.

I’ve been getting mislead by reading other info about directory’s and changing url’s and such.

I know the Permalink setting’s page, but what do I need to change specifically on there to make it display as I want?

I think though there is still something wrong with the dns. Everything is installed at https://user41534.vs.easily.co.uk/ in the source code but it should show https://www.kidsncancer.org.uk instead. Permalinks won’t change that.

yes – that’s the wp generated userid at the hosted space address (via the auto setup of the WP database maybe?)

So do I need to go at it from the server side rather than the WP website side?

wp does not generate a user id.

There are 303 other domains on the server.

When you log in to the hosted site and use what ever file manager they have you should see an upper level directory like public_html and within that directory https://www.kidsncancer.org.uk and within that all the wp file.

Your host or you need to associate your domain to your account. The URL https://user41534.vs.easily.co.uk/ was probably assigned to your account when it was created.

When you purchase or add a domain name, your host should add that domain to your account as a domain pointer, or alias, to direct traffic to your website. Both your domain name (www.kidsncancer.org) and http//user41534.vs.easily.co.uk/ show the same content.

I’m experiencing this issue as well. If anyone could provide a response it would be greatly appreciated.

https://www.stopthebullybook.com loads just fine. However when clicking on any link in the nav it sends me to the path where the files are stored https://www.martialarts-internetmarketing.com/stopthebully/

This is my first wordpress site and I’d like to work around this issue.

I checked out updating permalinks, but all I could find is updating permalink structure, not the actual domain set.

I updated the siteurl via phpMyAdmin. I did not update the home value.

Thank you again for any support you can provide. If it is not permalink related like suggested in one of the above posts, can you direct me to what should be updated? FatCow support told me that I needed to research permalink updating, so I’d like to be able to explain to them what needs to be done if it is something wrong on their side.

You should start your own topic. You will have a much better chance a finding a answer. All the links I checked on your site worked fine in IE9.
