you need to register and buy your own domain and install and setup the latest wordpress on your host.

I have registered my domain with GoDaddy.com… if I buy hosting services, how difficult is it to install wordpress on it?

Can wordpress be used in this manner via local host?

Meaning, will i be able to transfer my current blog to wordpress 2.0 (or the latest version of) and then transfer my new domain (minus the ‘wordpress’ portion) to the new wordpress software?

I hope nothing I did with the installation of wordpress screwed up my current blog..

jason, doing an installation of WP on your own domain will in no way effect your wp.com hosted blog. You should be able to import your wp.com into your hosted install via the RSS import Importing_Content#Importing_from_an_RSS_feed

And no need to buy a rug, just report back with any issues, and we’ll get you on your way to manning your own blog

Define “current wordpress blog”…

I have a wordpress blog at prospectinsider.wordpress.com.

What I’m trrying to do is use the wordpress software (2.0) to get use of the full features and ultimately use it on my host.

OK, since they are both “wordpress”… calling one of them “a wordpress blog” – is redundant and confusing ?? That’s why my request above.
To make sure that everybody gets what you are saying:
1. one is a wordpress.COM hosted blog
2. one is a blog hosted at your domain (hosted somewhere with a hosting company)

We do not support #1 here – they have their own forum.
The RSS import works with everything that has a feed/rss capability.

Registering a name with a company does not mean you have to host with them.

I would use a host that has cpanel (Bluehost, A Small Orange) if you are new to sites simply because Godaddy’s site is crammed full of so much junk trying to sell you more stuff instead of just letting you manage your site. I’m not saying they are a bad host – they are not – but their interface is gobsmackingly crap.

I have registered with Godaddy before and hosted elsewhere. Like podz said, you do not need to host with them. Lunarpages also has cpanel and you can do a Fantastico install of WordPress blogs with them. Very easy to use and I’ve been quite happy with them.
