• Hi guys, I’m back from the land of the lost and eager to jump back in the WP fray. ??
In the meantime, I’m ready to take the plunge and register my own domain. I’d like to solicit any and all feedback about 1)registrars, 2)how to go about setting up that domain with a host, and 3) anything else y’all can think of. I’ve never done this before and know next to nothing about it. Any useful info appreciated!

  • Stay FAR AWAY from Siteflip!
I posted a moderately negative, completely honest review of them on findmyhosting.com — the referrer through whom I purchased the hosting — and my account was suspended within 2 minutes, and flat-out deleted/cancelled within 5. I can assume reviews are fed straight to the host, even though there’s no indication of this when you’re filling out the review. No warning, no contact, no inquiry, nothing. They have blocked my IP, and their whois phone number is bogus, so I have no way to contact them. I am assuming they will keep the money for the remaining 9 months on my 1-year prepaid account.
It’s now 24 hours later and I have yet to hear from either Siteflip or findmyhosting.
Again, avoid siteflip and beware posting a hosting review for an active account!

Oops, turns out siteflip did refund my money without letting me know. Nevertheless, this was still a very unpleasant experience.

I have just used Gandi dot net. Domain Registration is all they do. Hence ultra efficient service and very low costs. My domain registered and pointed in minutes. A cool admin panel lets you redirect all your names in one go from one point. Really good value at twelve Euros a pop. Usual credit cards etc.
    I am really pleased.

godaddy has been very good for my friends and family. I’ve also heard good things about 1and1.com.
