• Hello,

I have a little question. I use WordPress Multisite in domain mapping and I would like to know if I could use multisite at the same time.

This will allow me to manage my plugins and accelerate my site. I already use domain mapping with different domains (fr.domains.com, en.domains.com, fr.domains.ca, etc.), but I would also like to separate with subdirectories, is it possible ?

    Eg fr.domains.com (site 1)
    https://www.domains.com/support (site 2)
    en.domains.ca/other-name (site 3)
    etc.

Thank you in advance for your answers,

  • I haven’t tried this but…

You can always create a page and explore the parent-child relationships between pages to see if that will suit your needs.

Of course if your original multisite was built as a subdirectory site then you will have subdirectory sites when you create new sites and those can be mapped to domains but there’s no easy way to map a subdomain that I can think of to a subsite itself without using forwarding off of a separate host.

But this is WordPress… you can do most anything you want with it if you are willing to modify code or use htaccess rules to cause things to happen outside of the norm.

This little tool from Rapid Tables can really be useful for creating one-off htaccess rules and even PHP code or HTML to do some right clever tasks.

The other day I mapped a domain into one of my multisite installs but didn’t change the DNS… so later that day I saw the site listed in my multisite and clicked the link. Went right to the site as expected. I thought that was noteworthy and I’ll probably find a use for that little trick later.
