It looks like I installed this plugin the day it was updated. Perhaps I should have taken note of that. I followed everything in the Dashboard, appended the DB name, changed the URL login page, and clicked many of the boxes available in the Dashboard. I did NOT touch the “Advanced” settings.

So now I am not able to login to my own site. Yes I did copy and store all the new settings. But I am not even able to get a WordPress Login box after entering the new URL to get to it. Instead it puts me immediately into the site **Without a Password** and then directs me to 127.0.0.1 of a Yahoo search page because host cannot be found when I try to access the WP Dashboard.

Due to this, I am not even able to get to the settings for this plugin to turn things off, etc. All I can do now is restore everything from an old backup, lose some of the content I had recently created and restore the old DB, .htaccess and wp-config files. Thank God I backed it all up before installing this monster.

I would not recommend this plugin. I have a feeling ONCE AGAIN, it only works if YOU PAY money first for the upgrade. I AM REALLY TIRED OF THIS TYPE OF LAZY, GREEDY PROGRAMMING. In this case, this will hose your entire site.

I have written several posts asking for help and NOTHING!

  • You never need to pay any money for this plugin. So not sure what you are talking about.

Have you read the following post?
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/features-that-are-labelled-advanced?replies=25

The following documentation has some resources for you that will help you sort things out even if you have messed something up in the plugin:

Next time don’t activate the advanced features maybe.

@alysha777 sorry to hear you have had so much trouble with this plugin. In regards to the following comment…

I have written several posts asking for help and NOTHING!

I have searched through the last two weeks of support treads in this forum and I could not find any questions from you. I also check the reviews section and also could not find anything. Could you point to the questions you have asked before so that I can investigate further for you.

Once again thank you for using this plugin.

    Regards

I don’t know why you can’t find my posts. They are all under Alysha777 and are on at least 3 different forums. I see that many people are having the same problems I am having so it is not just me.

I just edited the .htaccess file according to your instructions but it did not work. I was still not allowed into my site. Then after about 20 minutes I was able to enter using the old standard URL https://www.mysite.com/wp-Admin. But it only worked for a short time. I should have used that opportunity to deactivate this mess. But I was going through the steps again to see what was checked and see if something should be unchecked. However, shortly after this – while still checking out the settings in this plugin, I was suddenly redirected to the 127.0.0.1 – Yahoo search page again. Now it will not let me in at all. There MUST be something really wrong in the database because this redirect was removed from the .htaccess.

I have NEVER had so much trouble with a computer issue – and I used to run an Apache Web Server for NASA. This is unnecessary MADNESS.

I have already wasted way too much time on this.

THIS IS A BAD PLUGIN THAT NEEDS TO BE REWRITTEN.

Alysha – the ONLY other post by you on the forum for this plugin is here:

Posting in someone else’s thread is not a good way to get help on these forums – as per the forum guidelines – read this:

All of your posts are visible here:

None of the other ones have anything to do with this plugin…

Sorry I thought I was NOT suppose to start a new post until I had read all the other posts on the subject to see if I could get help from them. Posting in someone else’s post was what I was attempting to do – not start a new post. I also see other people posting when they are having the same problem.

    Anyway, back to mbrsolution,

Although I deleted the lines in the .htaccess file that you instructed, I just checked it again and it seems they are back in there. Perhaps it did not save on the server? Or is there a code in the plugin to keep rewriting the new .htaccess to it’s new “secure” version? I am going to attempt to delete and save it again and see if this is repeated.

    Thank you,

    Alysha777

Some other forums work that way – but these don’t – because it’s VERY unlikely that your site is identical to anyone else’s – that’s why the forum guidelines are pretty clear:

Posting your own topic is smiled upon. Unless you are using the same version of WordPress on the same physical server hosted by the same hosts with the same plugins, theme & configurations as the original poster, do not post in someone else’s thread. Start your own topic.

It’s also VERY confusing and hard to try to help more than one person in the same thread – and like in your case, it’s more likely that your post will not get seen by the people who can help you if it’s in another thread that’s already been replied to, etc.

It’s understandably upsetting when you get locked out of your site and I’m sorry you had that experience, but really, that can happen with ANY security plugin (and other plugins for that matter) – it really does not mean that the plugin is not well coded. Based on the reviews and support forum for this one, I’d have to say that quite the opposite appears to be true.

@wpyogi thank you for adding the instructions and helping out in this thread.

@alysha777 as you mentioned, if the .htaccess lines reappear again then that means that the settings or editing the file did not work. In regards to your comment..

I am going to attempt to delete and save it again and see if this is repeated.

If the above does not work for you, I think it would be a good idea to delete the plugin and install a fresh new copy which will have no settings enabled?

    Alysha777,
The reason you are being redirected to 127.0.0.1 is because you enabled the cookie based brute force feature and you are trying to access the login page using the standard URL, ie, wp-login.php.
You cannot do this with the cookie based brute feature because the point of it is to hide the login page from would-be hackers. The only way you will be able to reach that page is using your secret-word which you set when you enabled that brute force feature.

As per my reply to you in the other thread, you can easily resolve your issue by doing the following:
Edit your currently active .htacces file and delete the code between and including the following tags:
    #AIOWPS_ENABLE_BRUTE_FORCE_PREVENTION_START
    #AIOWPS_ENABLE_BRUTE_FORCE_PREVENTION_END

Then once you log back in, deactivate the cookie based brute force feature.

OK. I edited it again and went in this time and deactivated it and deleted it. Now everything is back to what it was before I installed it which is great! At this point I think I will look elsewhere for security. I am glad that it works for others but it did not work for me. I was disappointed as I did like the idea of many of the features. It sounded like it would be a great answer for security. Perhaps, due to the fact that it was just updated the day I installed it, it needs a bit more work.

Thank you for your help in backing me out of this!

    Hi,

I have installed the plugin on a IIS installation of WordPress but I can’t get it to work as it says:
“[04/13/2015 6:21 AM] – FAILURE : Unable to write to .htaccess – server type not supported!”
Any ideea how to solve this or/and how to run it on IIS? Thank you!
