• Shortpixel doesn’t work correctly and is very hit and miss.

It didn’t work right at all and didn’t replace the images on my server with .webp, it simply created lots and lots of webp copies of images and nearly filled up my server capacity.

It didn’t add them into the pages in places of jpeg’s and png’s, so in other words, I ended up with a stack of webp images alongside my old file formats and I had to link them all in myself and get rid of the png and jpegs manually.

This was very time consuming and no better than simply using a bog-standard image program which can handle batch processing for conversion.

It’s really expensive for what it does. And, furthermore, when I complained about the problems and asked for a refund, they basically told me to GTFO. No help. No support. Just a smarmy developer with a sub-standard product.

    Avoid.

    Hi Dean,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review, and I’m really sorry you feel about ShortPixel this way.

First of all, I believe there has been a confusion about how our plugin works. You say that our plugin didn’t replace the images on your server with .webp, it simply created lots and lots of webp copies of images. That’s precisely how ShortPixel works: it creates .webp files alongside the original files. ??

Now you may be asking how useful that is. Some browsers do not support WebP, so in order to serve your images to all the browsers, you must have a .jpg and a .webp version in your server. Fortunately, our plugin also has an option to deliver your WebP files (in addition to generate them) only to supported browsers. All the necessary documentation is in our knowledge base.

So basically, by linking all of the WebP files yourself and getting rid of the png and jpegs manually, you are actually creaating issues on browsers that do not support WebP. Those visitors will see broken images.

Lastly, I would like to mention that our support team would never tell you to GTFO. We love to help our clients and if a refund is asked, we proceed with it as long as they are eligible according to our terms and conditions.

Please feel free to contact us again to clarify the situation.

    Best,
