    Hi everyone,

    I have a question about categories.

    I have several categories and sub-categories, for example:
    Authors
    ->John
    ->Bob
    Pictures
    ->Nature
    ->Portraits

    I also have posts “John” and “Bob” with their info, and these posts are assigned to “John” and “Bob” categories, respectively.

    Now, I can make a new post “Mountain View” and assign to it categories “John” and “Nature” and also “Pictures”.

    But, when I click on the “Authors” category to list all posts with authors’ info, I get EVERYTHING – posts with pictures and posts with authors, including “Mountain View” post.

    I’m guessing it is because “Mountain View” was assigned to “John” category, and it automatically inherits the parent “Authors” category and ends up listed together with “Authors” posts.

    Or is it an error, and posts actually don’t inherit parent categories? In my dashboard, “Authors” category for post “Mountain View” is still unchecked.

    What do you think is the problem here?

    Thanks in advance!

  • That is the way WordPress is intended to work. If a child category is assigned, that post will subsequently be included in a parent category query.

    Ok, so what would be the right way for me to manage the pictures?
    I think no one expects to see pictures when looking for authors. Should I change the logic of categorizing them somehow?

    I’d appreciate any suggestion.

    I guess it’s ok to show authors’ works together with their bios. I’ll just make the bio post appear first on the list.

    Thanks.
