Double site language situation, do you know the better, easier way to fix?

  • I have as bilingual site that use the double site configuration

    ? Site Folder
    — English folder (with full WP install)
    — French folder (with full WP install)

    I know this is far from optimal and I want to know what route to go from there to have a more professionally set multi language WP.

    Any hint or idea on what plugin to use and the steps to achieve that?

    I’m not to experienced with WP… This is for a friend.

    Honestly, two separate sites is a poor solution if you want language versions to relate 1 to 1 with the other language’s content. You are required to manually maintain synch with the two versions. Two site solutions usually have different but related content, and the secondary language usually falls short in relation to the primary language. You can still have the same URL structure with a single WP installation in public root.

    Because I don’t have my own translation resources, I would have to go with a third party translation approach. Naturally, machine translations are far from desirable, but better than forcing users to copy/paste to Google Translate themselves.

    I’m reluctant to make recommendations unless I’ve had first hand experience with the subject. I can tell you that many people use the Polylang plugin, it’s very popular and highly rated. Lacking any better information, it’s at least worth a serious look.

    Thanks a thousand times. I will proposed to my friend to ditch the double site solution and probably use Polylang, I like the “one post per language” solution. I guess, I will just have to copy the post/articles from one of the sites and follow/copy the same images links url/folder arrangment.

    Polylang feel for me a little bit more like the great core multilingual system in Joomla.
