• The changelog from v1.5 stated the following:

This version contains a lot of changes under the hood which will break backward compatibility, i.e. once you’ve upgraded, downgrading will break things. So make sure you make a backup of your settings/database before upgrading.

If downgrading will break things, then what’s the appropriate route to go back to v1.4.24?

    I have a backup of the 1.4.24 exported settings. Should I uninstall v1.5.2.6, install 1.4.24, then re-import 1.4.24 settings?

I need to go back, but I don’t want to blow up my site/installation in the process. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • After I have had issues with problems with Yoast upgrades in the past, I decided to wait – thanks God. I was reading and it looks like it can be complicated to downgrade. This post might help.

Miz, thanks for responding. The way that link of yours reads makes it seem pretty difficult. If there aren’t a lot of pages or posts to deal with, it may not be much of an issue, but it looks like the following would be erased and have to be recreated:
    1) focus keyword
    2) meta description
    3) seo title (which I don’t use anyway)

I use the first two. I could go through each one-by-one, copy and paste them back into the downgraded version. But I’d have to resave every page and post, which would change all the timestamps within the database and XML sitemap.

I made a mistake in upgrading and it looks like downgrading is a risky proposition. I’m not sure what to do now.

It is certainly going to be an involved process because you’d have to restore certain database tables.

May I ask why you have to downgrade. What’s not working?

I would like to have the strip category name from url option back ?? is there a way to get the older version somehow and have the strip category option back? or at least in some minor future update….

@miz I’m looking to downgrade as I suspect it’s conflicting with another plugin. I only started noticing issues after the upgrade.

@sardelich. For the category I use the WPML strip category base https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/no-category-base-wpml/. It hasn’t been updated but works. I’ve been using for years because I always had issues with allowing the Yoast plugin to strip it.

@jumbo.Hard to troubleshoot without knowing a lot more but it certainly might be conflicting. I wish the authors of the large, popular plugins would give detailed instructions about removing or downgrading. The only one I’ve come across is that really provides great documentation is the author of Bulletproof Security – they really go out of their way with the documentation and provide step by step instructions.
I’ve gone through MEGA issues in the past. At least I am getting more proficient as years go on.
