I am managing a website for a friend. Unfortunately his current provider works with an outdated PH version (5.4), so I come across a lot of problems. The latest upgrade of nextGEN Gallery caused the WP backend to crash (error 500). According to the error log, fatal errors were caused by the latest ngg version. The older one worked, therefore I tried to downgrade ngg. But now I can’t activate it. It says:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 72 bytes) in /home/www/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/nextgen_admin/package.module.nextgen_admin.php on line 1079

What can I do to solve the problem?

My friend is tied to his provider for half a year, and PHP upgrades will not come until end of 2017. ??

    Thanks in advance!

@iriskammerer – The message you are seeing is pointing to a low PHP Memory Limit, this might be something you can work out with the web hosting service to increase to something more suitable to a robust WordPress installation. I would suggest pushing for at least a PHP Memory Limit of 128MB (preferably 256MB).

    Thanks!
