I work exclusively with the Thesis theme and can customize just about everything. It never occurred to me to check whether or not I could customize the avatar because it has never been an issue. I was working on a rush job yesterday for my husband and his students. I had all the pictures ready to upload for the 14 contributors. The site was supposed to go live in less than 3 hours when I realized I would need to contact everyone and get them to sign up with Gravatar. I have nothing against Gravatar and use it myself but I needed an immediate way to get the avatars uploaded with the pictures I had on file. This plugin saved me!
