I am using UpdraftPlus to backup some websites to my Google Drive. Lately I have noticed that sometimes there are errors when downloading the files from Google Drive in the UpdraftPlus dashboard.
When I download the 5 backups (Database, Plugins, Themes, Uploads, Other) from a backup date, UpdraftPlus often returns a “File not found” error for one of the 5 backups. UpdraftPlus expects a file with a different name than the file in Google Drive. This is strange because all 5 files have the same (pre) name.

Example: the 5 files in Google Drive have the (pre)name:
    backup_2021-01-30-2323_Mondhyginiste_Annette_Derx_7f3b7a45108b-db
    backup_2021-01-30-2323_Mondhyginiste_Annette_Derx_7f3b7a45108b-plugins
    backup_2021-01-30-2323_Mondhyginiste_Annette_Derx_7f3b7a45108b-themes
    backup_2021-01-30-2323_Mondhyginiste_Annette_Derx_7f3b7a45108b-uploads
    backup_2021-01-30-2323_Mondhyginiste_Annette_Derx_7f3b7a45108b-others
Downloading the files from Google Drive in the UpdraftPlus dashboard finds all files except the file for the database. UpdraftPlus expects the file named: backup_2021-01-30-2323_Mondhyginiste_Annette_Derx_3a5de3fef629-db.
Why does UpdraftPlus expect a different (pre) name than the other files?

I find issues like this on the support forum where you suggest downloading the file directly from Google Drive (https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/restoring-error-google-drive-db-gz-file-not-found/). But I think this is a bug from UpdraftPlus that needs to be fixed. How can I be sure the file in Google Drive has been uploaded correctly? How can I trust UpdraftPlus if I get errors like this often?

I also manage a friend’s website where the backup is uploaded to his Google Drive. If the error occurs then I have to ask him to help me download the file from his account. This is really annoying.

Can you explain why this error occurs and when to fix it?

    Kind Regards,
    Vanda Zocca

    Hi Vanda,

May I know which version of UpdraftPlus are you using? Is it the latest version 1.16.47?

Hi Bryle, Yes I use version 1.16.47. I think the backup of 01/30/2021 was done with an earlier version.

    Hi Vanda,

Does the files still exists on your Google Drive? Can you click on the “rescan remote storage” link to refresh the backup list?

    Hi Bryle,
Yes, the files are still on my Google Drive.
As you mentioned, I updated the backup list with “rescan remote storage”.
The result was not what I expected, it contained other backups, let me explain:

I use my Google Drive map UpdraftPlus for 4 websites. For every website I would like to use a separate folder, but this is not possible with the free version of UpdraftPlus.
For every site I keep 4 backups. So there are 80 files in my Google drive (4 websites x 4 backups for every website x 5 files every backup).
After updating the backup list with “rescan remote storage”, the last 4 backups (4×5 = 20 files) are put in UpdraftPlus desktop of the current website. These 4 backups are not the backups of the current website, these 4 backups are the last backups of all the 4 websites. Apparently, UpdraftPlus cannot select the backups of the current website from Google Drive. The risk of the “rescan remote storage” operation of UpdraftPlus is thus confusing backups of another site. I have to restore the correct backups manually.

Remains that the problem of not finding the file is still there. After updating the backup list, the Download of the Database backup of 2021-01-30-2323_Mondhyginiste_Annette_Derx still return the same error as mentioned in above issue. The other 19 files are OK.

I encounter the same problem for a website of a friend that uses his own Google Drive storage for a single website backup. If it helps I can send the log (if you tell me how to post this file).

    Regards,
    Vanda
