Download failed. couldn't connect to host

I cannot update any plugins – leaving my site vulnerable. Updating has worked – a couple of months ago, now no sites update. Of course could do it manually but this should/has worked. Have been in touch with my server’s help desk twice now and still no improvement. Can anyone help?
