Just updated. Took a while to figure out that I should migrate all my download files.

    Migrated them.

    Not appearing on site.
They are now scheduled to publish in 2018. Will have to go into each file and change the publish date as they are not appearing on my site.

Went into one of the files and updated schedule date to current date and time. It now appears, with cannot choose the icon. The icon is something Download Manager has chosen as a default. The blue link colored title of the file does not actually download.

The download letters are very tiny, perhaps 4pts. Hardly readable. A terrible experience for someone coming to my site.

The old version was so much better. Do not want to go back to it as I will have to reload all the files. Plus, I like to keep plug ins up to date re security risks.

Re above – the scheduled date was Nov 18, 2014 – but later tonite @ 7PM ish. Just rescheduled all download files for current time & published. Too much work for an update.

Actually we were talking about this update for a long time, details https://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/support/topic/download-manager-moving-to-custom-post-type/

But you still get back the previous version from here https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/download-manager/developers/

I upgraded two sites and lost all files, link to files. After migration all files lost category info.

I have to remove new version and installed older version and everything went back to normal.

Please do not publish update until you are 100% sure it is full functional!

Great plugin, but this update is not ready for public.

Really should learn the lesson that I shouldn’t update a plugin without checking if people have found any bugs, etc. This time I didn’t and discovered loads of things I didn’t like (!) or didn’t seem to work. For now I’ve gone back to the previous version and will stay there a while. When I have more time I’ll ‘upgrade’ again then let you knoww all the things that don’t seem right.

Let’s start with the “wpdm_file id”

    1. Older versions have way of selecting a file witout knowing the wpdm_file id. Couldn’t find this facility with new version.

    2. Older versions allowed me to show the number of downloads on the download icons. Doesn’t seem possible with new version (well it didn’t display anyway)

    3. Couldn’t find the wpdm_file id for the files I have. Something wrong in the list of files loaded. Looks like most files have the same wpdm_file id

    And categories: Category assignment lost.

Migration: Didn’t know you had to do this at first. Couldn’t that info be included somewhere in the update information…

    Thank you Shaon for responding.

I’ve been updating the plugin as notified. It is only today’s update where I lost all the files and had to do the migration.

    Would appreciate 2 improvements:

    1. Someone in another thread suggested that when pressing the icon it triggers the download process. That would be great, because that was the first click I made when trying to download. Can this be achieved?

    2. Please increase the size of the font for the download words. They are very hard to see even though I am on 24 inch screen. On a tablet, they are probably so small, they just look like a line.

If you could improve these two areas, it would make the experience of visitors to my site so much better.

    Many thanks.

@janeandboucle, thanks. I’ll add both feature with next update.

@tbuza, @philthebass, Actually we released this update in our site about 6 months ago and lots of users already using v2.7. I’ve discussed with many 2.7 user before releasing it at wp.org. All of them are using v2.7 without any issue, we also have tested a lot.

We clearly mentioned there are some manual works for migrate data, we discussed it in our site and also in wp.org forum but we did all this to make it better. Category links may lost as they are moving to custom taxonomy, so slug and ID are changed. But you don’t have to change short-code for the files you already created with v2.6, they still will work fine after migration.

Anyhow, I’m really sorry for all these troubles, but trust me, I did all those extra works to give you something better, I know when something is already running well, no one want a change there, but still sometimes need pass some rocky way to get something better.

Look, I love the plugin and the Download Manager team has done great work. But the perspective in the message above is mypotic. Your plugin has been downloaded 820,742 times. How many of those users do you think ever visit the plugin page or read the support forum? 10? 50? 100? Posting a note in the support forum does NOT reach your user base. May want to rethink how you communicate important messages like the need to migrate data.

Thanks, and I do enjoy the plugin.

We also added the instruction about data migration in welcome page ( https://www.evernote.com/shard/s349/sh/495726aa-efa1-4881-b1e2-83dc204c8413/9cdad0329ee7c9ce4256971ae2a179d9/deep/0/(PNG-Image,-1180—896-pixels).png ), but still I’m very sorry, if some users missed it.

    Hi Shaon:

I just looked at your welcome page link posted above. That page never appeared for me when I updated.

    Just thought you should know.

Will look at the 2.7.1 soon.

    katemegill

    (@katemegill)

Yeah, never got a welcome page showing up for me either.

The migration was frustrating for me, but an easy thing to take care of. The MAJOR problem I’m having is that the passwords no longer work – and if I change them, they still don’t work. SERIOUS issue! Every one of my files are password protected so none of my files are now accessible to my readers.

Another important issue that needs to be fixed immediately: clicking on the large button does NOT open the download, you have to find and click on the tiny link name. PLUS you cannot get rid of the download popup box until you click on that tiny link again. Readers will NOT get it and will be filled with frustration.

I really REALLY loved this plugin because of its ease of use for my readers. But unless these bugs get fixed, I’m concerned that I’ll have to look for something else for the sake of my readers.

    Seriously looking for 2.7.1!!!!

@katemegill, I’ll make complete download button clickable with next update. Password popup is malfunctioning because of theme css conflict, if possible send a temporary wp-admin login info with a private reply here https://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/support/forum/download-manager-free/
