Hi, Trying to migrate my existing site (which I have barely started to work on) to a local host using “All in One” plugin on my Mac but the download doesn’t seem to be completing. The option I am using in the plugin is “Export to” a “FILE”. So, it should be downloading into the “downloads” folder on my Mac. The green “flashing” popup window that you click when using the plugin that says “Download [name of file]” and also shows the size, which for reference, is showing as 121MB, should turn another colour when the download is complete but this is not happening despite the fact that when I minimize the screen so I can see the footer menu, I can see the document downloading (the little bar moving across completely from left to right). I can see the file has appeared in my downloads folder, but when I come to “import file” in my local host although I can see the download in my downloads folder it is light grey, meaning that it is not available for me to choose. If I double click on the file in question in my downloads folder another window pops up that says “There is no application set to open the document [“name of document”]. Search the App Store for an application that can open this document, or choose an existing application on your computer.” There are then buttons to “Choose Application” or “Search App Store”. Really not sure what this is asking me to do? Do I need another “application” or “app” in order to access/work with this document?

I have tried several times yesterday and again this morning but no joy. For reference, I have moved the downloads that haven’t completed into my trash and emptied the bin so I have a “fresh start” every time I try this operation. Please note that I have also deactivated and deleted the plugin and re-installed and activated in case the problem was with the plugin download.

You can probably tell from my commentary that I am pretty much a novice….any help gratefully received.

Or suggestions for a different plugin that would be straightforward for a novice to use please.

    Many thanks.

  • It sounds like the download finishes, but you can’t open the file you’ve downloaded. AI1WM creates exports in a sort of proprietary file format, *.wpress. You can’t open it like you could a zip file. Unfortunately, that’s just the way it is with this plugin. But for moving sites from one place to another, this plugin excels at that.

So if you’re trying to move a site from one place to another, here’s what you would do:

    1. Create and download a backup archive on the source site (the site you want to move).
    2. Spin up a fresh WordPress installation on your localhost (or wherever you want to move the site to). This means downloading WordPress core, jumping through the hoops of connecting it to the database, etc.
    3. Install the All-in-One WP Migration in that new WordPress site.
    4. Head into AI1WM’s import page and import the backup file you downloaded (the *.wpress file).
    5. You’ll be prompted to overwrite the files and the database. Proceed, and make sure the import tab/window stays open until the process finishes.
    6. Once it finishes, reload the page.

I’ve got the same problem. I’m not moving my site, I’m just trying to restore from a few days ago. I have done this already. The download is not completing is not being downloaded onto my mac.

I spoke to soon. I found it downloaded
