I have all my products as downloadable PDFs. I have checked “downloadable” and “virtual” as my product type, but the products are listed as “out of stock”. I went in and chose “in stock” on products, but it still showed as “out of stock” until I entered a stock quantity. Then it says that number of items is in stock and the “add to cart” button shows up with a quantity selector.

The quantity selector is irrelevant for downloads. I should be able to choose “Downloadable” and “virtual” as my product type, and the “out of stock” should be irrelevant and not show up, so that the add to cart button shows up.

I imported my store from a CSV file, and there wasn’t a database listing of “out of stock” on my old store setup, so I don’t know why everything came in “out of stock”. “Downloadable” and “Virtual” were set to “Yes” on my database import and they did work.

  • You can turn off stock management on a per product basis at Admin page > Products > (this product) > Product Data section > Inventory tab >
Manage stock? Enable stock management at product level = unchecked.

You can turn stock management off altogether at Admin page > WooCommerce > Settings > Products tab > Inventory page: “Enable stock management” = unchecked.
