• I see there have been others with this issue, and the threads are marked resolved, but I have yet to see an actual resolution. The only “resolution” that works is to use the “redirect only (insecure)” method for downloads, and that is not an acceptable solution – that method is by its own definition insecure, and in fact, when used, a warning message pops up saying the method is deprecated and to use another method.

The issue is that when a downloadable product is offered via an external link, the file is not properly delivered to the buyer. Although the file appears to download, when opening, there is an error message that the file was damaged or not correctly decoded.

I do not want to have the files loaded in my WordPress media folder, as I don’t want the issues with either the size or the bandwidth taken when someone downloads.

This used to work using an external source like Google Drive or Dropbox. Please fix this issue – there are many of us having to deal with a functionality that has recently been broken.

    Hi @smcrjc,

Thanks for reaching out on the forum.

As mentioned on our Digital/Downloadable Product Handling support documentation, links from some cloud storage providers, like Google Drive or Dropbox, only work when File download method is set to Redirect only (insecure).

You can read more about this here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/digital-downloadable-product-handling/#can-i-use-cloud-storage-to-store-my-files-and-downloads

You’re always welcome to add your own comments on how this should be changed in the future to the Ideas Board, which is where developers go to look for future plugin features and improvements.

    Thanks.

Thanks for responding. I see the info about Google Drive, but not Dropbox, but I gather something may have changed on their side, since I know I’d set this up with Dropbox before. I’ll look for another option.

Thanks for the link to the Ideas Board.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for getting back.

I see the info about Google Drive, but not Dropbox

The support documentation refers to “Cloud Storage Providers” like Google Drive, Dropbox and others without mentioning all providers. Thanks for trying other options though, if you have more questions please open a new topic.
