Downloadable products: using external url (not file path) as variation

I’m selling a downloadable/virtual product, and it has some variations. All of them, except one, are hosted in my own site, normally. However, I need that one variation be hosted in an external url, something as in the external/affiliated product option, but as a variation. There’s a way to do it?

(A solution what I’m trying is upload a php file that, when opened, redirects to the external link. But I’m not too sure if this is the right thing to do.)
